The High Voltage Research Group has been active at the Power Transmission and Distribution Research Center since the establishment of the Niroo Research Institute (NRI). As a leading research group, it has sought to fulfill its primary mission as one of the country’s key institutions responsible for research in the field of high-voltage engineering and technology by conducting critical projects for the electricity industry. In this regard, staying abreast of the latest developments in the electricity industry, acquiring knowledge on the application of advanced technologies, and localizing such technologies within the country have been among the group’s top priorities.

Furthermore, the design and establishment of reference laboratories for high-voltage testing, low-voltage circuit breakers, polymeric insulator aging, and short-circuit testing represent important steps toward providing services to manufacturing companies—particularly for quality improvement—and to the electricity industry, with the objectives of reducing maintenance and repair costs, minimizing outage duration and unserved energy, and improving grid reliability.

The group has also recognized the challenges faced by regional electricity companies in the southern provinces of the country and has undertaken numerous projects addressing the insulation and electrical insulation challenges specific to these regions. Major initiatives include the development of pollution maps for regions with specific environmental conditions, preparation and formulation of standards for electrical equipment used in special climatic regions, establishment of a research base for electrical equipment in tropical regions in cooperation with the Hormozgan Regional Electricity Company, assessment and determination of equipment deterioration factors in the southern regions of the country, and comprehensive studies on the phenomenon of particulate matter and dust storms.

Today, the High Voltage Research Group, supported by a team of experienced and specialized experts, is prepared to provide research and laboratory services in the fields of high-voltage equipment and insulation systems to the country’s electricity industry.
